Man City ace Barry: Kop chants put me off joining Liverpool

Published on 2012-01-25 by TribalFootball

Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry says he rejected Liverpool because of disparaging songs from the Kop.

He admits those songs came into his thinking when Liverpool and Manchester City both came in for him the following summer.

Barry smiled: "I remember when the transfer saga was going on I was sat at home watching a friendly.

""The Liverpool fans were singing 'You can stick Gareth Barry up your a***!' I could just hear it vaguely. "

"So that might have got into my head a little bit!"

Barry insists there are no regrets and said: "People say to me that I've made the right decision joining City.

"At the time, Liverpool were still interested when I decided to join City. I thought about it really hard.

"Obviously Liverpool is a fantastic club with a great following but I won the FA Cup last year, I've played in the Champions League.

"It wasn't an easy decision. I was signing for City on promises being made really and, in football, promises get made all the time."
